3 on 3 Basketball

OU Intramural/Schick Super Hoops

The Game

  1. The game shall be played by two teams of three (3) players with a maximum of one (1) substitute.  There shall be unlimited substitutions.  Substitutions may be made during any dead ball.  TEAMS MAY CONTINUE TO PLAY WITH ONLY TWO PLAYERS.  HOWEVER, THEY MAY NOT PLAY WITH ONLY ONE PLAYER.

  2. Each team shall have no more than one (1) varsity athlete.

  3. Game time is forfeit time.

  4. Games shall be played to 15 points.  You must win by one and not exceed a twenty minute time limit.  If the score is tied after the twenty minute time limit expires, the next point shall win the game.  A coin toss at the beginning of the game shall determine possession and the possession rule will be in effect throughout the game for jump balls.

  5. The imaginary Check X shall be at the top of the foul circle.  To start each possession after a score or a foul, the ball must be checked by the defensive team at the X, and the player in possession of the ball can either begin by passing or dribbling the ball.  The ball must be returned to the check X by physically touching the X with a foot after a turnover but does not have to checked by the defensive team.  FAILING TO RETURN THE BALL TO THE CHECK X SHALL RESULT IN A TURNOVER.

Scoring and Fouling

  1. All baskets shall count 1 point.

  2. The offense shall call ALL fouls.

  3. If a player is fouled in the act of shooting, the offensive team shall retain the possession of the ball if the shot is missed through the 6th team foul.  ON THE 7th TEAM SHOT, ALL FOULS SHALL RESULT IN A ONE SHOT DEAD BALL FOUL SHOT.

  4. If the basket is made and a foul is called during the attempt, the basket shall count and possession shall go to the other team.

  5. There shall be NO time outs.

  6. No player may foul out of the game. However, any player may be ejected by the supervisor or scorekeeper for a flagrant foul or unsportsmanlike conduct.  ANY PLAYER EJECTED FROM A GAME (INCLUDING PRE AND POST GAME) SHALL AUTOMATICALLY BE REMOVED FROM THE TOURNAMENT.

  7. TRASH TALK WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  Any tournament official can remove a player from the game if it warrants.

SCOREKEEPER

  1. A scorer/time keeper shall be assigned to each game.  This person shall not be responsible for calling fouls or settling disputes during the game.

  2. The officials score will be kept by the scorekeeper.

  3. The scorekeeper and/or supervisor may rule on any flagrant or unsportsmanlike foul and may eject players for such infractions.  They may also rule on any unsportsmanlike, intentional, or flagrant foul at the end of the game.

  4. The Tournament Director shall have the authority to rule on all protests at the time they occur.  His/Her decision is final.
