Facility Rental Information

The Huston Huffman Center (HHC) is a recreational sports facility that is beneficial for many users. From students and faculty/staff that utilize the HHC for personal aspects of health and wellness to programmed events that allow students a structured sports atmosphere for competition. These are the main objectives for the HHC. There is, however, a usefulness of the HHC that many do not see or know about-Event usage. The following pages of policy and regulations will help in the understanding and programming of events for the HHC. Recreational Service retains the right to disapprove any user at the department’s discretion.

If an organization requests the use of the Huffman Center as part of a national or international competition, Recreational Services administration reserves the right to move a campus entity from the facility in order to promote the University on a wider level. This could include, but not be limited to, AAU sports tournaments or national sports competitions. The Huffman administration would inform the University entity of its intention so as not impede the University entity from locating an alternate facility. All deposits made to Recreational Services will be refunded.  Organizations that rent the HHC may be required to have liability insurance that covers the event and names the university as an additional insured.  Questions about insurance can be addressed to Garry Armstrong (405) 325-3053.

Areas of Usage

The HHC has many areas that can be utilized for event activities and administration. Each area has a function to help in providing a superior experience for users and administration.

Basketball Courts- The HHC has a set of 4 basketball courts and a set of 3 basketball courts that can be used for a variety of needs. Basketball tournaments, youth camps, cheer and dance spaces are a few of the events that are currently held in the HHC. There is a 4hr. minimum rental per day. All courts available will be rented, no partials. Scoreboards for the courts can be used per day per court. Balls and equipment for games and activities can be used at no cost but users are responsible for return and damages incurred. Their replacement cost will be the cost of reorder and shipping. Tables and chairs for administrative duties are available at no cost. Rental dates are limited to two weekends per semester for student groups. The Department, prior to the beginning school year, will determine those weekends.

Activity Rooms- The HHC Activity rooms are used for classes and the Aerobics Program. They can be used for the same activities or approved activities specific to the Users. HHC Event Coordinator must approve use of rooms. Use of rooms can be used anytime except during Aerobic or Recreational Services sponsored events.

Classrooms- The HHC has 3 classrooms and 1 conference room available for rent. These areas are separated from the main facility accessible from the West breezeway. Most users will use the rooms for courtesy refreshments and snacks. The HHC Event Coordinator must approve all classroom use.

Racquetball/Squash Courts- The HHC now is home to 5 racquetball courts and 1 squash court. Members and students utilize them year round. They can be a benefit to Camp Staff as a near-to-site area for administration or other approved uses. All racquetball court use other than racquetball activities must be approved by the HHC Camp Coordinator.

Set-up/Clean-up- The HHC takes great pride in providing a safe, clean and healthy environment for the membership and event visitors. We maintain a level of cleanliness to help users enjoy their time in the facility. We will take care of all normal activities from setting up the facility for Camp users and sweeping the courts for safe play. If a user is extremely cautious and aware of the hazards of accumulating garbage and removes it, no cost will be incurred. The HHC Event Coordinator will notify the user if excessive garbage clean up is needed.

Tennis Courts- The Timberdale Tennis Courts are located on the corner of Timberdale and Jenkins. Recreational Services has the responsibility of renting the courts and scheduling events through Intramural Sports. The 10 courts are used on a first come first serve basis unless posted.

Intramural Fields- The Intramural fields are a vital part of the recreational service the department provides. They are used for many events and are capable of hosting multiple events. From flag football to soccer to softball, the IM fields can be used for any number of events based upon need. Field marking is available for events where that is essential.

Field Rules- In 1989, the IM Department implemented a NO CLEAT rule for all intramural activities to reduce the number of injuries and ease the wear and tear on the playing surface. This has proved to be both cost effective and safe for the participants. Events must be approved to wear cleats during activities on the IM Field areas. On a case-by-case basis, cleats and other questionable footwear will be allowed. No glass bottles, no alcohol, no unauthorized vehicles allowed on IM Field property.

Timberdale Field- The area located west of the OU Swim Complex is available for use with many options of use. Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, outdoor recreational games, and open-air banquets are a few events that can be planned on that area.

For questions about the facilities and availability, contact/mail Garry Armstrong @ (405) 325-3053.

Swim Complex- The Murray Case Sells Swim Complex (OU Swim Complex) is located at 1701 Asp Ave. It consist of a 25y indoor pool and a 50m outdoor pool. Access is open to students, members and public.

The OU Swim Complex is a great place to host birthday parties or any type of function. Parties can be scheduled through the Aquatics Coordinator. (325-4837)

Birthday Party- includes streamers, balloons, tablecloths, 2- 2L bottles of soft drink, t-shirt for child and admission of 10 children. Parties are based on 2 hrs. Extended time can be rented at extra guard time. Guard number will be determined upon number of guest.

Swim Meets are required to use the entire facility and are rented at a per hour cost. This type of event must be planned with the Aquatics Coordinator.
